REFUGEES
Life in Bulgaria is a challenge. Especially for the hundreds of asylum seekers - refugees, spending days and months in registration-reception centers around Bulgaria. Those are some of the faces of refuge and hope - mainly from Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Fatema Gulam Ali from Afghanistan. More than eighty years old, she moves west alone trying to locate her sons. She has no idea where they might be but she hopes they reached Germany by now.

After crossing the Turkish-Bulgarian border, an Afghan family found the old woman in the forest, alone. The family took her with them and since then is taking care of her in one of the Reception Centers in Sofia, Bulgaria.
Nothing to lose
Fatema Gulam Ali left Afghanistan in search for her sons. While most migrants are young men in good physical shape or families with children, this eighty year old stands out - old and fragile, she slowly moves west, hoping to find her sons.

After her birth doctors in Iran diagnosed her with heart valve desease and recommended medical examinations every three months. In Bulgaria with her family since three months, she is about to be examined in Sofia with cooperation of Bulgarian Red Cross and the International Organization for Migration. Making a difference for Refugee Children
Terre des hommes (https://www.tdh.ch/en), together with Bulgarian Red Cross, has set up and runs child friendly spaces (CFS) with daily educational and recreational activities for refugee children (4 to 12 years old) where psycho-social support is also provided.

Terre des hommes (https://www.tdh.ch/en) has set up and maintains IT rooms with computers and internet for teenagers (including UASC) where they can access information (about their rights, asylum procedures, assistance from institutions and NGO, etc.) and also be in touch with their families, listen to music, watch movies, etc.; Psycho-social support for those in need is also provided.
